It Takes a Village: Preventing Diabetes

The prevalence of diabetes is at epidemic proportions in the U.S. While there are genetic factors that make diabetes unavoidable for some,it can be prevented in many people through lifestyle changes, such as exercising, proper eating, and stress management. But changing health behaviors is hard. On this Healthstyles program, host Dr. Diana Mason, RN, interviews Wanda Montalvo, RN, MSN, a nurse consultant and leader in preventing diabetes among socioeconomically diverse communities. Ms. Montalvo talks about what you can do in your community to support lifestyles changes for those at risk for diabetes.

So tune in tonight from 11:00 to 11:25 on WBAI, 99.5FM (www.wbai.org), or listen to the program here.

Healthstyles is produced by the Center for Health, Media and Policy at Hunter College (www.centerforhealthmediapolicy.com).
