Mothering Difficult Children

Judith R Smith, Ph.D., LCSW is an NYC-based psychotherapist and professor emerita Fordham University. She’s the author of “Difficult: Mothering Challenging Adult Children Through Conflict and Change” published by Rowman & Littlefield. The paperback release was on April 2nd– 2024. 

Dr. Smith returns to HealthCetera two years after the publication of the hardcover version of her book. She has been offering support groups (as well as individual counseling) for mothers with difficult adult children.  She shares what she’s learned from these mothers and how this self-help book for mothers has helped them navigate their lives, seek social support, practice self-care, and stay safe.
