Efforts to improve the health and safety of pregnant and postpartum people across the country continue to be undermined by maternal morbidity and mortality rates. At its core, the health of pregnant and postpartum people is a matter of patient safety. On this podcast, Dr. Samantha Bernstein and HealthCetera correspondent and public health nurse Barbara Glickstein MPH, MS, RN, discuss what patient safety is, and how patient safety is affected by systems, rather than individuals. Samantha Bernstein, PhD, RNC, IBCLC, is an obstetric nurse and faculty member at MGH Institute of Health Professions, and specializes in the areas of patient safety and health services.

This interview first aired on HealthCetera in the Catskills on WIOX Radio, on December 22nd, 2021.
