Protecting children from toxic stress

“There is a great deal of research on the biology of what is called toxic stress and its effects on the health of children and families who experience prolonged disruptions to their lives. It can have damaging effects on learning, behavior, and health that persist into adulthood. But there is much we can do to prevent and mitigate toxic stress in childhood. Registered nurse and HealthCetera Correspondent Eve Adler talked about this with Wendy Parise, an early childhood educator, consultant on early intervention for young children with special needs, and co-chair of a work group that wrote the Early Start Personnel Manual for California. This interview first aired on HealthCetera in the Catskills on WIOX Radio on November 30, 2022.”
