According to the National Alliance to End Homelessnessin 2021, the Coronavirus pandemic interrupted data collection of people who were unhoused. What we do know is that the rates of homelessness nationwide are increasing. Although the homeless population is diverse, inequalities are evident and risk is significantly tied to gender, race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status.  HealthCetera Correspondent and Registered Nurse Eve Adler talked with Celina Alvarez, who has been working in the homeless sector for decades. Celina is the executive director at Housing Works of CA, a local nonprofit organization recognized for its best practice approach in getting unhoused people OFF the streets and INTO housing.  Celina has also developed a College curriculum that introduces students to careers working in the homeless sector.
